Bit.Movie '95
International Festival of Computer Art
Riccione, Palazzo del Turismo
The eighth edition of the International Festival of Computer Art Bit.Movie '95 ended on monday 17th April with the awarding of prizes to the winners. About 6000 visitors came to Bit.Movie during the five days of Easter holidays. Moreover, thanks to cognitive questionnaires, we collected very encouraging data: the profile of the average visitor is that of a man/woman from 16 to 30 of age, having a certificate or a degree, having a computer, and considering the computer art as an hobby or as his/her job.
The advertising and information media gave a particular relevance to the Festival; particularly RAI TV, with TG Leonardo connections, RAI DUE, TMC and the Region Emilia Romagna News. Also the VIDEO MUSIC team came to the festival, and carried out shootings for a program.
Therefore, BIT MOVIE is confirmed as a great event of international interest, able to attract the attention of thousands of fans and of the television.
The interest in Computer Art and Computer Graphics continues to be in an expanding phase for many reasons. Besides being of great help to science and to other disciplines, the production of synthetic images has become a true art, using light as a palette, and imagination to create coloured and fantastic forms. The manipulation of reality made possible by Computer Art is giving life to an artistic "Renaissance" of our modern era. The growing number of the participant authors is demonstrating it. This year, 783 works arrived at the Festival secretary's office, 249 more than those of 1994. The authors were 333, 107 more if compared to the 226 ones of last year. 239 works belonged to the "2D Image" section, while 345 to the "3D Image". In "2D Real Time Animation" section there were 20 works, while in "3D Real Time Animation" 46. In "Video Personal Computer" there were 50 works, while in "Video Graphic Workstation" 56
Let's look at where the authors came from. Out of 333 authors, 208 of them are Italians and 125 foreigners. Immediately after Italy there are the USA with 52 authors, then France with 24, Canada and Germany with 8, the UK with 6, Finland, Grece, Austria, Sweden, Switzerland, Australia with 3, Japan, Australia and Greece with 3, Holand and Japan with 2.
The very numerous public following the Festival during the already mentioned five days was invited to give the animations and the images realized with computers by Italian and foreigner authors its preference.
For the last years BIT MOVIE's task has been that of giving animators and designers the opportunity to confront the creative tendencies, the ideas, the innovating techniques, the new narrative forms born out of those digital images created thanks to personal computers. BIT MOVIE is confirmed, with this eighth edition, as an artistic and cultural event more and more known and appreciated on the international scene, the more so because it has not lucrative interests and is conceived expecially for the young and for those productions based on low cost systems. It presents the actual condition of the art derived from the production of synthesis images, computer animation and musical composition on personal computers.
The seventh edition of the Festival hit the centre, being able to present the most interesting and qualified production in the field of synthetic images realized with personal computers.
